Summary/Abstract: Social communication is not only unrestrained, spontaneous, but also institutional. These aspects are interrelated, mutually conditioned. Analysis of any process must, therefore, take into account both of these aspects. Today, Switzerland is rightly regarded as an example of the systematic approach to problems arising from long-term cultural contact. The Swiss have developed a number of interesting institutional models by which the risk of conflict is at times significantly reduced, though it has not been fully eliminated.
