Summary/Abstract: The concept of relative deprivation is the subject of the article. At the beginning of this work, the Author points out shortly the history of the theory of social revolution. Subsequently, the publication concentrates on particular positions of social science, which indicate the essence of relative deprivation. The article presents the development of the idea since its precursor – J. A. Davis, through J.C. Davies, to the T.R. Gurr who provides a full-scale perspective on the abovementioned topic. In the second part of article, the idea of relative deprivation is analyzed from the perspective of criminology. This part of work aims at indicating a potential application of relative deprivation in the context of ideas seeking for the explanation of criminal behavior. The publication includes numerous references to the newest subject literature.
