Summary/Abstract: Since 2011 the Polish legal system has provided patients or their heirs with the possibility to obtain financial benefit from a hospital where a situation of personal harm has occurred, defined asa „medical event.” This solution is new to the legal order in Poland, and it concerns the appointmentof a quasi-judiciary method of claiming damages by patients or their heirs which is an alternative for proceedings before common courts. Justified amendments, based on the experience that has already been gathered by commissions, are both a sufficient and necessary instrument to ensure the qualitative improvement of legal regulations in this respect. This is what the legislatoris expected to do, leading to insurance against medical events likely becoming a secondary oreven redundant matter which would be in line with the demands to eliminate such insurance.
