Summary/Abstract: Doctor-patient relationship has experienced a continuous transformation in recent times, from a relationship of "subordination", of doctor-patient dependency (paternalistic approach), to one of equality, cooperation and partnership. In light of this new type of relationship, it became necessary to assert and include the patients' rights in an appropriate legislation. The policy of promoting patients' rights in Romania has led to the development of the Patients’ Rights Act (Law no. 46/21 January 2003). The obligations corresponding to these rights are concentrated in the codes of ethics of the medical professions. The paper examines the manner in which the new codes (the Code of Medical Ethics 2012, the Code of Ethics for the dental practitioner 2010 and the Code of Ethics and Deontology of the general medical assistant, the midwife and the medical assistant 2009) address the need to respect the rights of patients by stipulating correlative obligations of these health professionals.
