Wincenty Pol’s penitential psalms against the Polish Psalter biblical style

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes Wincenty Pol’s penitential psalms. The paraphrases have been considered in the context of stylistic features of the Psalter biblical style. In result of the analysis it has been concluded that W. Pol, the Bible’s translator, accurately renders systemic features of the Psalter style (syntactic and lexical-idiomatic). It is still characterized by “traditionalism and absolute lack of innovation” mentioned by the critics (Łoboz 2004: 7). Nevertheless, with regard to religious texts, this objection may be perceived as peculiar praise.
