Summary/Abstract: I propose to approach, the place that holds the search of an identity in the novel Notturno Indiano of the Italian writer Antonio Tabucchi. This novel tells a spiritual search of an young man who arrives in Bombay to find a missing friend. Throughout a path full with misunderstandings, the tracks are scrambled and it is discovered that the hero, actually, is in search of his own identity in the deforming mirror of Bombay, a city full with strange coincidences and unusual meetings. The work of Tabucchi describes a subject which is at the time of the passage between two identities, or the life and death. Indeed, the work of Tabucchi is based on a deep existential concern due to an experiment of disintegration of the individual and collective identity. This experience, the main cause of its internal split, often is linked to a particular historical reality against which the character is impotent.
