Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the phenomenon of the so-called Islamic State and the developmentof terrorism since its beginnings till the present day. Terrorism is the mainweapon of this state both in the interior and the exterior sphere. Without doubt, it isan important aspect posing danger to security on the regional and global scale. Theanalysis involves methods used by Islamists and the passive reaction of the West, basically limited so far to bombings and military aid. The key players in the conflictare the Western States, recently joined by Russia with its bombing raids. The specialforces of these states operate in the territories occupied by Islamists, and in the region,Syria, Turkey, Iraq, and Iran, each of them for different reasons, appear in theconfluence of interconnections maintained by the conflict. The so-called Islamic State will not survive, because it is surrounded and foughtby everyone, nobody will recognize it in view of the international law, but its terroristactivity may spread and affect failed states. This will give rise to new waves ofimmigration, a humanitarian disaster and the return to Europe and America of volunteersfrom these continents, who might get involved in terrorist activity and sabotage, and be difficult to identify. It is too early to conclude that the birth of ISIS constitutes a significant turningpoint in the history of international terrorism, and the events have to be carefullyfollowed.
