Summary/Abstract: In the text, I briefly outline the problems encountered in Poland in the work of Jacques Derrida, beginning with its not entirely accurate identification with poststructuralism, through the reduction of deconstruction – both in terms of its critical reception and in translation – to the philosopher’s earliest works. Deconstruction is not, despite appearances, merely a classic concept now relegated to the junk heap of literary theory, but remains a relevant tool that can be used in the context of contemporary socio-political issues. Outside of a few notable exceptions, the three main (fundamentally interrelated) problem areas characteristic of the late Derrida – ethics, politics, and theology – have only been dealt with to minimal degree in Poland. Therefore, out of necessity this rough sketch also serves to demonstrate the glaring deficiencies in the Polish reception of this philosopher, and the (occasional) interpretative abuses committed by its opponents.
