Summary/Abstract: This article identifies the main economic and geopolitical trends influencing global and European energy security in 2015. First, it characterizes the factors influencing the current supply-demand trends in the global oil market. Among the most important changes, which are of great importance for the global energy market, it recognizes low global oil prices, the decision to lift US oil export ban, and the perspectives for a wider access to Iranian oil. It analyzes implications of these factors for global energy security. In its second section, the article focuses on the European Union energy security policy and its attempts to shape the energy union, as well as EU’s energy relations with Russia. It explores the divergences between official declarations and the practice of the EU and the Member States’ energy policy. It is argued that in 2015 these divergences were specifically embodied in the Nord Stream II project.
