Summary/Abstract: The author offers an analysis of the phenomenon of language shift in connection with the disintegration of cultures in a diaspora situation. The process of the disintegration of languages is a historically well-known phenomenon, and the experiences of the past concerning extinct languages help us describe and understand the ongoing processes.
