Summary/Abstract: The article pursues a twofold objective: to outline the role of Dimitar Kossev as director of the Institute of History, and at the same time to trace the development of the Institute in the period from 1950 to 1962. The remarkable synchronicity which was established between the institution and leader in those years is the fact that allows such an approach.
