The Globalization of Research and Transnational Corporations’ Developments

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the globalization of research and development (R & D) by transnational corporations (TNCs) in the form of direct investments or exports of research outfits abroad. It is highlighted that research and development of the business sector in developed countries are concentrated in the large transnational corporations. The direct investment in research is evaluated by a number of indicators: the number of research organizations created abroad, the level of research and development carried out by TNCs’ overseas branches, the percentage of foreign-funded research and development, the patents received by subsidiaries of foreign corporations. Special attention is paid to the benefits for TNCs from exporting research outfits abroad and the new paradigmatic approach to the organization and management of R & D.
