Preference modeling in multi-criteria discrete decision making problems – review of literature

Summary/Abstract: The paper is devoted to methods of multi-criteria decision aid. It is a review, its purpose is to describe the various ways of decision maker’s preference modeling used in a discrete multi-criteria approach that can be found in the literature. Among the considered is-sues there are the following: applying the utility function, decision maker’s pairwise com-parisons, outranking relations, generalized criteria, reference points and sets of reference points, interactive modeling, relationship among criteria and decision alternatives, verbal methods. Some examples of preference modeling in different problems are mentioned.
