Summary/Abstract: The article is concerned with forms and functions of linguistic stylisation in film dialogues. The opening episodes of the three classical Polish historical series: “Royal Dreams”, “Queen Bona” and “Black Clouds” are analysed. The author describes the grammatical, semantic and pragmatic exponents of the historical stylisation. It turns out that the procedures used by the filmmakers are very similar. The creators of the series harnessed the literary stereotype of Old Polish. Its basic elements are item archaisms, conventional stylistic archaisms, bookish vocabulary and Old Polish courtesy titles. The author believes that the specificity of the audiovisual medium has a significant impact on the linguistic form of dialogues.
