Summary/Abstract: Max Brod’s literary oeuvre, which encompasses all the main genres from poetry to drama and prose (novels and stories) through to essays and biographies, has been largely forgotten. His work is also of intellectual and cultural significance, in particular with regard to aesthetic and Zionist discourses of modernism in Prague. This paper places Brod in the context of classic modernism as well as Zionist debates in Prague, and offers an analysis of Brod’s “Zionist” novel Rëubeni. Fürst der Juden (Rëubeni. Prince of the Jews).
