Summary/Abstract: Even if the origin of the term logistics belongs with the military area, its meanings differ with the two representative domains, i.e., civil and military. Differences also appear in the approach of the different linguistic cultures or international organizations regarding the meanings given to the term. Due to the fact that we have not identified a standard, universally valid definition, we consider it opportune to review the different opinions related to the senses the term logistics takes, keeping in mind that the latter lies at the basis of many concepts specific to the domain, evolving and adapting continuously to the needs of improvement, both in the civil and the military environment.
