Summary/Abstract: The article looks at the 30-year experience of the European Capital ofCulture (ECC) project. The first section briefly examines the origins and legal basisfor the ECC. Next, the authors present the experience of the selected ECChost cities including Wrocław, which is the 2016 European Capital of Culture. Thearticle concludes with pros and cons of the ECC initiative.
