Summary/Abstract: The article deals with a poorly attested Slavonic text – the life of St. Anastasia of Rome (the Widow) – that is generally considered to have been translated from Latin in the period of the 10th-11th century in West Slavic territories (Bohemia). Since it was known until now only through late Russian copies (from the 16th century onwards), it was interpreted as an example of early direct Czech-Russian literary contacts. The author of the article points out, however, that there is a South Slavic (Serbian) copy of this text. It is preserved in a fourteenth century manuscript, kept in the Archive of the Croatian Academy of Science, sign. Z IIIc24. It is the earliest known copy of the text, being at the same time the only one of South Slavic origin. This raises once more the question of the time and place of the Slavonic translation from Latin, as well as the problem how it penetrated into Russia.
