Summary/Abstract: On the 24th of June 1976, the ruling Communist authorities in Poland announced a sharp rise in food prices in order to save the economic situation of the country. That fact caused disturbances throughout the country. In many towns it evoked strikes and public appearances, which erupted with particular force in Radom and Ursus. The article describes the most important events of that period that occurred in the Opole voivodeship: a strike in the Zakłady Elektrotechniki Motoryzacyjnej [the Electrotechnical-Automotive Company] in Namysłów, a propaganda campaign of local authorities and the reactions of the local population. Furthermore, the author of the paper attempts to present the impact of the previous events on the organization of the XIV National Festival of Polish Song in Opole and the attitude of some of the artists participating in that event.
