Summary/Abstract: In the European Union almost each country has its own stock exchange and some countries have even more than one. Moreover, these stock markets are in different stages of development and are very differently classified by the specialized agencies: as developed, emerging or frontier markets. In the past years, we witnessed several attempts of mergers and acquisitions or alliances between the Stock Exchanges, both in the Western and Eastern Europe. Recently, the European Commission started to work on a plan to create a so called Capital Market Union in the European Union. In this paper we will analyse the dynamic of this process around the European Union.
