Summary/Abstract: This paper is an attempt at a critical self-reflection, through which the author presents essential issues about understanding and defining ethnology and about the basic research methods used in the field. The central problem highlighted in the paper concerns the role of science in the process of not only reconstructing, but also constructing, reality.
