Summary/Abstract: The article reviews some contemporary socio-geriatric problems which are the result of demographic aging (physiological, pathological and intermediate). It tackles also geriatry specifically as a complex science situated on the border between biology and the social sciences. It points out that the unclear visions of age norms cannot be qualitatively differentiated from the pathological ones, particularly in older age. Additional knowledge of the changing physiology of the organism of aging people, of the particularities of the pathological processes in older age, is needed too. Special attention is paid to the need of looking closer into the problems of the social and psychological status of older people and of their place in the family and in society. Consequently examined are some of the basic geriatric problems related to heavy and chronical pathology, as well as the necessity of special care of ill individuals (with a long stay in hospital). The need for general revitalization and functional recuperation of the old organism is also discussed.
