Summary/Abstract: Realization of the freedom of religion includes the possibility of establishing religious associations. The associations in question have the right, but not the obligation, to be registered by the competent administrative organs after fulfilling some legal requirements. The registration comes with some advantages and disadvantages to the religious group, as well as, to the state. The paper is an attempt at offering practical help to organs of administration in making decisions to register a religious association, using as a tool statistical data concerning the interested subject. At the end of the paper, de lege ferenda postulates have been enclosed to prevent the registration of the so-called „joke religions”. Potential registration of such an association can lower the authority of the registering organ, the state, and the very law itself.
