Summary/Abstract: The treatment by the media of the suicides at France Telecom: the slow emergence of management responsability in suicides linked to work. This article analyses the media cover of the suicides at France Telecom. The corpus corresponds to a particular “discourse moment”, from May-June 2009 until mid- August 2009. The media cover is limited to a confrontation between points of view which neutralise one another. The article reveals three enunciative scenographies of the event which weigh on the manner it is understood, the management minimising its responsibilities and putting forward the argument of a lack of direct causality between work and suicide, while the unions don’t pose the question of responsibilities in such terms. The encounter represented from the outside fuels the collective imagination of a role play and maintains the idea that for such dramas, the responsibilities are impossible to determine. The article then returns to the links between the suicides and other phenomena related to social suffering at work, showing how the press assumes its responsibilities by going beyond emotion and the pure and simple account of conflicting positions.
