The counteraction of floods’ and droughts’ effects in Lublin voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: The article formulates a thesis: the flood in 2010 became the impetus for a change in the Lublin Voivodeship in counteracting the effects of natural disasters. The thesis is confirmed by the effects of investments of small water retention (the largest number of artificial water reservoirs was built in 2010) and a significant increase in total expenses aimed at water management and levees after 2010. However; it is worth noting that nowadays there should be used natural methods of flood protection rather than technical ones. Besides; the analyzed data confirm expectation that the maximum expenditure in 2007 was related to the absorption of the European Union funds (structural funds). The increase in funding from the Structural Funds also manifested itself after 2010.
