Economic violence against women – the transparent problem

Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of economic violence against women has not been fully investigated and described yet. Economic violence is a kind of psychological violence. This can result in neurotic disorders; depression; low self-esteem. The perpetrators of economic violence often reinforce their victims to believe that they are worth nothing; control their expenses; threaten that without them they cannot cope. Studies show large-scale of the phenomenon. The purpose of this article is to show the economic problem of violence against women and to describe a few examples of this phenomenon and the actions that are taken to combat this violence. This violence was called transparent because of its “invisibility” as a social problem. Economic violence does not refer so much to economics alone; but to psychological dependence and humiliation of one of the parties. Economics in this system becomes a tool.
