Summary/Abstract: Numerous researches on women’s image in media witness their discrimination in the real life and mass media. However, further researches are and will be necessary until the level of media culture of communicators and that of media rises to that extent that public discrimination of women, happening under the disguise of freedom of speech and repeated negative stereotypes is stopped. This paper includes the research of contemporary American and Western-European trend of “celebrity politics”, i.e. the trend in which politicians are presented as celebrities and entertainment becomes more important than information. Furthermore, there is an illustration of previous researches on women’s image in traditional media which served as a basis for the same research on the news portals in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Holistic method of content analysis was used to prove that women’s discrimination is continued, although at the same time more attention is given to human rights in the world and even in countries in transition.
