Summary/Abstract: The paper seeks to map the shifting contours of IR (International Relations) research in India from its predominantly area-studies focus towards disciplinary inquiries and within that, from the traditional realist frameworks towards an engagement with critical theories ranging from constructivism and feminism to post-colonialism. With a growing Indian involvement in the domain of global governance, the scholarly research is also going beyond an Indo-centric focus to addressing the diverse problematiques of modern IR as such. The pedagogic practices of Indian IR are however, not matching the pace of such changes. The paper concludes that developing critical pedagogic practices will play a determining role in shaping the future of the IR discipline in India.
