Summary/Abstract: In December 1916, when the defeated Romanian army and the authorities in Bucharest retreated to Moldavia, Brăila was occupied by the troops of the Central Powers. For two years, the city was administered by German officers, who tried to integrate all local resources into the war effort of the Central Powers. The paper presents, on the basis of unpublished sources from local archives, several aspects related to the administration of the city, the rationalisation of food supplies, the confiscation of private property, etc.
