An Analysis of the Ideological-programmatic Profile of the Swedish Left Party from the View of Political Extremism and Radicalism

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with an analysis of the ideological-programmatic profile of the Swedish Left Party from the perspective of political extremism and radicalism. First, we analyze the theory of political extremism and radicalism. Then, we briefly introduce the process of the genesis and transformation of the party’s history. Then, the main section of the article follows, focused on an analysis of the Left Party’s programme. The article concludes with the observation that the Left Party’s programme says nothing which would allow us to classify the Left Party as an extremist political party. On the other hand, the Left Party’s programme embodies many attitudes which make it possible to mark the Left Party as a radical left party, despite some inconsistency in attitudes among leading party officials.
