Summary/Abstract: Analysing contemporary concepts of cities of the future it is possible to notice two important groups of projects among them. One of them assumes, in closer or of distant future, coming into existence self-sufficient energy cities, which will not emit the carbon dioxide and process waste. Second, more popular, is the one which carries out demands of the sustainable development in constructing cities, putting the priori- ties for the city itself behind the target. This division into “visional” cities of the future and present corrective actions have been legible for ages. What is more, concepts of “cities of the future” responded to the purposes of “cities of the present time”. Meeting the needs of their residents was a leading message, ensuring better living conditions and sense of security. It seems, that according to the report “The future of cities – cities of the future”, a city of the future is a connection of an intelligent use of modern technologies and innovative systems facilitating managing respective agglomerations, with potential of the institution and companies as well as creativity and enthusiasm of citizens. The subject of the article is an analysis, in this light, of operations carried out by the Grenoble city hall, which has started carrying out over 30 assignments in the field of the integrated planning, taking a reduction in produced greenhouse gases as a specific target. EcoCité project, executing in Grenoble, is located on the surface of 250 hectares, in the central Presqu’Île district and is one of the most important investment action of the public-private sector in France. It assumes the implementation of operations in the amount of 1.3 milliard euro within 15 years.
