Summary/Abstract: The use of spare embryos for medical research remains still a controversy; there is a many years' discussion on the moral status of human embryo. The question arises: should embryo be regarded morally the same as a fully-shaped human, or – due to differencies between embryo and more fully-shaped representants of the species (children, adults) – should it be regarded dinstinctly. The article starts with presenting three reductionistic approaches: ontological, biological, and relational. Then some arguments, supporting the thesis that it's the phenomenological point of view that make it possible to deal with all the complexity of the issue, are introduced.
