Summary/Abstract: The establishment of the Academy for Social Sciences, under the subordination of the CC of PCR, at the beginning of the year 1970 was undoubtedly a symptom of the turn to conservatorism of the communist regime in Romania. As such, this was an obvious sign of the party leader’s desire to reinstitute the ideological primate in the social sciences. It is not less true that such an interpretation does not describe the entire structural process, which stood behind the event and neither does it cover all its nuances. The association of veritable scientists, together with the infiltration of political commissars (politruks) in the academic world, as well as the initial motivations of the decision, reveals that at its origins, there are more profound motivations than a simple partinic subordination of some scientific fields.
