Summary/Abstract: The paper looks at the selected questions related to the upcoming European elections. First, the author provides the historical background of the elections to the European Parliament and electoral systems that were applied. Next, he covers the question of citizens residing in the EU member state of which they are not nationals to exercise the right to vote and to stand as a candidate in European Parliament elections. In the last section the proposals for increasing voter turnout are discussed.
