Summary/Abstract: The scope of the present paper is represented by the quite distinctive pool of what we may call ‘indirect neologisms’, i.e. the loan translations which are currenty enriching the word stock of contemporary Romanian (represented, in this paper, mainly by the idiom of the press). Out of the broad spectrum of the calque mechanisms rife in Romanian, it seems that loan shifts are the most frequent and consistently used, while the principal cause for the existence of so many calqued Anglicisms in standard Romanian is undoubtedly the activity of translation that, more often than not, obviously fosters a majority of today’s press articles, as well as mass media comments, reports, analyses, profiles etc.
