Summary/Abstract: This paper is trying to survey the concept of “literary theory” over the past decades. It presents an attempt to clarify and rectify the imbalance between the different theoretical directions of analyzing the fictional narrative (namely genre theory and structuralism) and works towards establishing the idea of the coherence of the novel genre as a historical phenomenon.
