Summary/Abstract: Terminally ill patients experience multiple loss and an intense fear of further suffering. As a response, they often feel hopeless, and lose the prospects for their future, which calls for psychological help. In order to establish an authentic relationship to the patient, the psychologist must acknowledge grief and sadness as normal phenomenon in end-ol-life situations. The support we offer must, therefore, aim at accepting end enduring the sadness and at the same time discovering the positive elements that persist even in this period and give the patient strength. Using the inner resources of the patient for reframing the negative aspects of loss, and strengthen the relationships among family members is a fruitful way of saving the dignity of life, and finding the patient's individual but not lonely way toward a dignified death.
