Summary/Abstract: For those who meet the sea it is not merely a geographical entity but it represents the various experiences connected to it. The presen article gives a brief overview on the positive and negative semantic content of the expressions: yam, mayim or mayim rabbim based on their occurrence in the Book of Psalms. Then it will have a closer look at the sea depicted in Psalm 69. Although in v.2-3 sea appears as life-threatening waters (mayim), in v. 35 it is described as seas (yammim) glorifying God and full of life. The source of danger becomes a vivacious cosmos praising its Creator. Where does this transformation of the water take its origin? While looking for the answer the essay gives a comprehensive overview of the psalm. Beside characterizing the genre it also gives a possible division of the psalm, which assists me in observing he praying person's situation and the changes in the prayer, while searching for the appearance and dissolving of the images of the waters and the sea and for the reason of these changes.
