Summary/Abstract: The 1983 Code of Canon Law permits the diocesan bishop to erect a new religious institute. In reality the process of the formation of a new religious institute is long and comprises a number of steps. One of these is a public association of the faithful intending to become a religious institute. The goal of the article is to present the particularity of this canonical structure.
