Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we seek to introduce the reader to system dynamics, its role in systems modelling and to describe the basics of computer simulations of systems. Understanding of events within the system enables a better insight into problem areas and finding more economical and sustainable solutions. System dynamics interrelates systems behavior and interaction of system elements. These interractions may be simulated and tested. The computer simulation is the imitation of system behavior. This behavior is described by a series of calculations performed within the dynamic computerized model. Simulation is useful for modelling systems that are difficult to test in real life and serves as a useful learning tool, especially when combined with experimentation. Modelling leads to the improvement of critical thinking skills and improved quality of decision-making. This is one of the reasons why this methodology may be used as a supplement to, or as a form of more complex and detailed „what-if“ analysis.
