Summary/Abstract: The present paper discusses some modern approaches to the development of West Slavic accentual system, especially Czech. It is argued that the Czech and Slovak quantity depends on the key paradigmatic cases and nouns can be distributed among quantitative paradigms. The distribution of quantity in derivates depends on the existence of the disyllabic, maximally threemoraic domain. In Czech, this domain is regular only in certain derivative categories and in a certain synchronic level.
