Summary/Abstract: Responding to Jan Růžička, this article addresses what has happended to the term 'Central Europe', whather 'Eastern Europe' has replaced it, and the extent to which 'Eastern Europe' has become something other than the former socialist satellite states. It further considers how much these conceptual terms are used by different actors today. The relations of these terminological changes are then transposed to recent developments in US- and Western-Russian relations to determine the insights they may offer on the contemporary position of post-communist states in wider European security.
