Summary/Abstract: The present paper represents the perspective of a conference interpreter/translator and teacher of English as a second language and aims to highlight the importance of listening skills in the education and activity of social workers. It focuses on the experiences of a victim of domestic violence and the way in which the discourse needs to be perceived and interpreted by students in social work who are the future specialists in the field.
