Summary/Abstract: This biographic study presents the Jesuit Johann Kraus, secondary school teacher, university professor, preacher, poet, writer, and missionary. He was a keen supporter of new literary aesthetics, which endorsed, for example, conceptual sermons. The author presents an overview of his historiographic, hagiographic, and meditative works but also his poems, polemics, and last but not least, sermons. Using the example of his opening speech for incoming students of rhetoric, he analyses his sermonic style, and in an appending provides an edition of his rhetoric performance.
