Summary/Abstract: The armenian-byzantine theological dialogue from the XIIth century and its ecumenical actuality. From 451 on a painful schism divides the Non-Chalcedonian Churches of the East and the Byz-antine Chelcedonian Churches. The first part of this essay presents a short history of the contacts be-tween the Armenian Church and the Byzantine Church between 451-1165. The major part of the essay is devoted to an analysis of the most significant attempt to put an end to this schism by uniting these two churches in the middle Age: the tree theological dialogues between repre-sentatives of these churches during the XIIth century: the dialogue in 1170-1172 between Catholicos Nerses IV and the Byzantine philosopher Theo-rianos; the Armenians Synod in Rumkale in 1179 under Catholicos Krikor IV; and the great union Synod of the Armenian Church in Tarsus in 1196-1197 animated by Archbishop Nerses of Lambron. The main section of this essay is dedicated to a presentation of the most valuable ideas of the Discourse delivered at the Synod in Tarsus by Nerses of Lambron as the most advanced ecumenical position exprimated ever in the history of the relationship between these Churches up to this country. It's reevaluation could be of great importance in the context of the present theological dialogue between the Non-Chalcedonian and Chal-cedonian Churches.
