Summary/Abstract: The present article gives an overview of the results of a survey among Estonian language editors. The aim of the survey was to get an idea how language editors (1) use the supposedly most widely used Estonian language dictionary ÕS 1999 and its newest edition ÕS 2006, and (2) what opinions they have in general about this dictionary. Thus, the survey was more than just monitoring dictionary use, and therefore the word reception can be used. The responses to the questionnaire reveal very little serious criticism of this dictionary. It is indeed the most widely used dictionary among editors, and although it is a language planning dictionary, language editors tend to use it as a universal Indo-European type general language dictionary, and hence they say that sometimes they do not find certain information that they would like to find, especially semantic information. Nevertheless, the vast majority of the editors who responded to the questionnaire are satisfied with the dictionary and find very few serious problems, if any.
