Summary/Abstract: This study is a systematic presentation of the concept of women in the Coptic Gospel of Thomas. In the first part it follows the term “woman” as it is used in the GThom. The second part is focused on two female persons explicitly named in the GThom, i. e. Mary and Salome, and the third part explores what concept of motherhood can be found in the GThom. The basic feature of woman in the GThom is her fundamental connection with earthly man’s existence, which in the GThom is seen negatively. She can also be a disciple of Jesus (as Salome), but her salvation depends on the overcoming of her womanhood.
