Summary/Abstract: The cynic's claim that reality belongs to mediocrities and its imaginary glory to artists is belied by the "profane" pose of Slavko Mihalic who has founded his authorial capital and fame as one of Croatia's leading poets on a profound and almost masochistic immersion in the mire of the quotidian. If it is actually true that success as detail of private life is incompatible with artistic vocation (because it benumbs the instincts), then it is Mihalic who shows how a disquieting reality can be transformed into poetic ascent.
