The musical and textual Character of a particular Folk Song

Summary/Abstract: More than a century (the late nineteenth century), in the Albanian ethno-musical tradi-tion, from generation to generation of popular singers in the oral process, there is transmitted a song, whose interpretation, in any present receptor, creates specific emo-tions of musical-textual enjoyment. The subject of this paper will treat this song, which is famous and popular with some variants of the title but more often with the title: “Va-jtimi i Avdisë” (The mourning of Avdi”). The song we are mentioning in this case is an intertext of an epic song a part of which in the popular singing takes the character of a melodized mourning song. Therefore, viewing from the musical and performing dimension we will focus at some features that characterize the song “Vajtimi i Avdisë”: - The Melodic line poses special interpretive requirements of the singer, - The Shaping of poetic – musical aspect of the song (symmetric shapes, asymmetric, verses with the chorus etc.), - Through the analysis of verses, its parts, refrain, we will see the character of the melo-dy, - During the interpretation, the singer throws interjections, exclamations, yowls, howls of communicative character etc. - The rhythm of the melody keeps the flow of the syllable structure of the poetic verses, - The relationship performer-listener in different contexts of realization.
