Summary/Abstract: The article is a recollection of the author’s memories regarding the foundation of the review that was published by the Romanian Society for Historical and Philological Sciences since 1956. Born as the outcome of a scientific conference, the editing of the review was affected by the antagonism between the defenders of the traditional scientific method, on one hand, and the leninist-marxist historians that followed the Communist party line, on the other. The author’s personal account is based on his journal and describes the chronological evolution of the review between 1956 and 1979 taking into consideration mainly the contents (thematic sections) and the people involved.
